Junior League of Dallas

Training

Because of the depth of the training the Junior League of Dallas offers, its members are among the most effective and caring volunteers in the community. The community benefits greatly from JLD training JLD volunteers bring an added emotional and intellectual component to volunteering and approach it with more mental initiative.

The JLD provides training for its members in the following ways:

The Training Vice President develops and conducts training modules that cover such varied subjects as facilitation, time management, problem solving, conducting effective meetings, and strategic planning, while sometimes teaching Committee Chairs how to facilitate the training module themselves. These seminar-style presentations last between five and 90 minutes in a small group setting;

General and Group Membership meetings provide training in a large group setting by providing speakers who cover such topics as grant writing, communications skills and diversity, as well as providing access to nationally-known speakers like Nellie Connally, Linus Wright and Nancy Brinker;

In-League Committees (those committees that help run the JLD administratively) are a source of training by their nature. For example, volunteers can learn about finance at any level by participating in one of the areas under the Financial Vice President or about the media by working in one of the Communications Vice President's areas;

JLD-supported agencies can teach such diverse skills as resume writing, AIDS precautions, building civic involvement and neo-natal care;

The Provisional Course teaches the newest members about the challenges and opportunities facing Dallas and the surrounding area.
